KIRAN Rest House is a contemporary hospitality project designed for British American Tobacco Bangladesh (BATB), one of the largest international corporations operating in Bangladesh. Located at Trimohoni, Kushtia, within the premises of the BAT MLD (Mirpur Leaf Depot) warehouse, the project serves as a temporary accommodation facility for the company’s high officials and guests. Rather than functioning as a conventional rest house, the design aims to provide an immersive experience by connecting users with the surrounding natural landscape.

The project responds to the unique context of vast agricultural fields surrounding the site. The architectural concept focuses on creating a contemporary structure that preserves the relationship between human intervention and nature. To balance the client’s requirements for privacy and an elegant hospitality experience with the architect’s vision of bringing users closer to nature, an asymmetric cruciform form was developed. Two intersecting rectangular volumes are elevated on pilotis, creating a floating structure that captures a 360° panoramic view of the landscape.

The elevated building allows the natural landscape to flow beneath the structure while providing guests with an uninterrupted connection to the horizon. Public functions such as conference rooms, dining, gym, and prayer spaces are arranged within the north-south elongated volume, while accommodation spaces are positioned to maximize views and natural ventilation. Extended balconies, movable glass partitions, and openable facades strengthen the interaction between indoor and outdoor spaces.

Sustainability was a key consideration in the design approach. The high-rise solution minimized the building footprint and preserved the surrounding landscape. Natural ventilation, daylight optimization, rainwater harvesting, shaded balconies, and climate-responsive orientation reduce energy consumption and enhance user comfort. Locally appropriate materials, including fair-faced concrete and black aluminum framed glass openings, create a dynamic architectural expression while reflecting the identity of the organization.

The project has gained international recognition and has been published on ArchDaily, one of the world’s leading architectural platforms, highlighting its innovative approach to contemporary corporate hospitality design, contextual sensitivity, and sustainable architectural solutions.
