The Shah Muhammad Mohsin Khan Uwaisi Mausoleum, located in Hijuli, Manikganj, Bangladesh, is a thoughtfully designed Dargah (mausoleum) dedicated to the spiritual and social contributions of the revered Sufi saint Shah Muhammad Mohsin Khan Uwaisi. Designed by Ar. Md. Sharif Uddin Ahammed and commissioned by Dr. Mubarak Ahmad Khan, the project preserves the legacy of the “Pir” while creating a platform for Islamic knowledge, reflection, and communal harmony. Inspired by Bengal’s rich architectural heritage, particularly the square-plan tombs and mosques of the Sultanate period, the design integrates local culture, historical references, and spiritual symbolism.

The conceptual approach, “Chandelier of the Paradise,” symbolizes the connection between the earthly realm and the divine through the metaphor of sacred light. The interplay of natural light, shadow, and the existing graves creates a celestial atmosphere that encourages contemplation and spiritual experience. The project emphasizes inclusivity, universal accessibility, gender equality, and the importance of shared communal spaces to promote peace and understanding among diverse communities.

The project has received significant international recognition, including the RIBA International Awards for Excellence 2024, Best Memorial Architecture Project 2025 (South Asia), International Union of Architects (UIA) Honourable Mention 2023, and the Friendly and Inclusive Spaces Awards – New Building Category. It has also been featured in renowned international publications such as the University of Florence Magazine (2025), ArchDaily, MAP Academy, and numerous national architectural magazines and newspapers, highlighting its contribution to contemporary memorial architecture and cultural preservation.
