Aptech Industrial Park

Aptech Industrial Park is located in Kashimpur, Gazipur, the industrial hub of Bangladesh. The ready-made garments of the Bangladesh (RMG) industry have grown significantly, contributing to the national economy by offering abundant job opportunities and alleviating poverty through socio-economic development. The phrase "Made in Bangladesh" on the textile item made Bangladesh renowned across the world. The core idea was to create a park that embodied the identity of Bangladesh. Therefore, the north and south elevations of the Sewing and finishing building were inspired by the architectural icon of Bangladesh, the National Parliament House. Moreover, concrete and brick were exposed and used in a manner that is basic robust, durable, and as maintenance-free as possible.  It is also a representation of the traditional weaving and crafting of Bangladesh.

The entire area of the site is 42783.37 square meters, while the building footprint is 70511.52 square meters. The Aptech Industrial Park employs 10,000 people per shift. Industries work unlike a well-researched set design; they have their rhythm and regularity. The main objective is to develop a clear horizontal and vertical circulation to maintain this pace.  All ten buildings are zoned clearly to supervise the high volume of traffic, the complexity of the industrial functions, and to avoid fire hazards. Fire hazard in the RMG industry is the most crucial among other mishaps. The Sewing and the finishing building are the largest in volume and house most of the workers. To avoid the risk of a fire emergency during working hours the stairs and lifts of the sewing and finishing building are isolated from the main massing. All the Fire stairs are connected by a 3m bridge and provided with large openings to allow positive air in case of fire emergencies.

The project incorporates sustainability concepts; each structure is oriented north-south to take advantage of the climate. Each structure has a large floor layout with a high ceiling to make efficient use of natural light and air. Managing natural ventilation and light in all workstations enhances the quality of the interior environment, increases user comfort, and lowers operating costs. To reduce the direct penetration of the sun, west-facing windows are provided with vertical brick louvers, whereas south-facing windows cut the sun with concrete louvers. Each structure follows regularity and proportionality to provide an inspiring environment for the workers to work, think, and enjoy their hours.

Moreover, the fire cores are connected by a 3m bridge to allow positive air through large gaps and openings.

Vertical louvres are introduced on the south and west façades to avoid direct heat penetration inside the working zone. The louvres are also working as visual illusions to soften the sewing and finishing building volume.  The park has an ETP (Effluent Treatment plant) on the ground floor of the washing store. Besides, a Water Treatment plant is installed under the internal road between building five and six. The rainwater harvesting pond infront of the rest house cools the environment and separates the industrial area from the residential zone.
